Detailed Description - How Low Can You Go?
The Omni S8 is the smaller model in our Omni subwoofer lineup. It gets its hard-hitting intensity, with near zero distortion, via a newly developed amplifier that can produce 400 watts of dynamic power and 100 watts of RMS power and a high-output 8-inch driver with a patented Ribbed Elliptical Surround. This proprietary design eliminates surround dimpling, enabling the subwoofer to play lower with greater output and fidelity. The subwoofer’s down-firing port further increases its output by using the floor as a loading surface. In fact, the Omni S8’s frequency response goes down to 27Hz, so it sounds like a much larger subwoofer and sets a new standard in its class.
On the Omni S8’s front panel you’ll find three controls: level, frequency and phase. These accessible controls let you adjust your bass levels with complete ease, as well as facilitate the subwoofer’s acoustical integration with the other speakers in your system. On the back of the subwoofer, high- and low-level inputs, as well as a power mode selection increases both installation and connection flexibility. There’s no denying that the Omni S8 will bring powerful, tight and undistorted deep bass performance to any of our home theater systems; however, we recommend pairing it up with our Omnisat®, Uni-Theater® and Nanosat product lines.
The Science Behind the Mirage Sound: Exclusive Mirage Technologies
Ribbed Elliptical Surround Technology
Our patented Ribbed Elliptical Surround technology (U.S. patent 6,725,967, Canadian patent 2,407,123) increases excursion, eliminates distortion and raises efficiency on our woofers and woofer-midranges such as those in the OC-45. While a speaker surround (suspension) permits cone movement, our proprietary Ribbed Elliptical Surrounds permits identical movement in both directions for near zero distortion and improved resolution. Our Ribbed Elliptical Surrounds also allow for a more cone surface and greater peak to peak movement than conventional designs, resulting in greater efficiency. These attributes enable our woofers and woofer-midranges to move more air with less distortion, ultimately allowing them to play lower in frequency with greater clarity and dynamics. This is especially helpful in smaller or slender speakers, like the OC-45, by providing better dynamics and lower distortion (attributes normally associated with larger speakers) while being easy to blend with subwoofers for a more seamless system.
